Pastor Chris’ Corona Quarantine Epistles to the Flock of AIC Ngong Road, in Dispersion and Isolation. 166th Edition.
Dear Ambassadors of the Risen Lord,
In today’s passage (2 Peter 2:7-9) we explore further, the dealings of God with the wicked, and how it affects the righteous. The apostle wants it clear that God will
Save the Righteous (v. 7). God rescued Lot from the wickedness of Sodom and did not destroy him with the wicked. It is wrong to suppose that numbers always win. The truth of God is not subject to the ballot box and only the righteous will be saved, even if it is only one citizen in the whole city. This is because the righteous
Suffer in the Realm of wickedness (v. 8). A person whose heart is inclined toward God will not be comfortable in an environment where the commandments of God are _flouted_ and immoral behavior is touted. A person who desires to please God will be repulsed by such an environment and it often even depresses one. But God sees and will
Separate the Righteous from the Wicked (v. 9). The words of Peter here recall the words of the Psalmist, “For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish” (Psalm 1:6), as well as the teaching of Jesus about the final judgment, in which the King will separate the sheep from the goats (Matthew 25:31-33).
Appearances can be deceiving. Let us not be misled – those who reject the way of Christ and live ungodly lives will be kept for judgment, while at the same time God will be rescuing the righteous from temptation.
Choose your allegiance, because it will determine how God deals with you, whether to deliver or to judge.
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
