Quarantine Epistle 150

Pastor Chris’ Corona Quarantine Epistles to the Flock of AIC Ngong Road, in Dispersion and Isolation.150th. Edition.

Dear Ambassadors of the Risen Christ,

Today’s passage (1 Peter 5:8-9) reminds us of the reality of the enemy we are up against. Because we are almost always up against fellow humans, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that they are just a front for the real enemy. It is possible for us to focus on the persecutors who are tools of the enemy and miss the whole point of the spiritual battle, hence the call to

Sobriety (v. 8). Sobriety is the opposite of drunkenness. A person who is drunk has lost control of his faculties and is likely to act without caution or due regard to the prevailing facts in a situation. Our enemy the devil is like a roaring lion, intending to frighten and ultimately devour (eat) us. This should remind us of the words of Jesus, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10). We must be ever watchful because our enemy is crafty. Not only are we called to sobriety, but we are called also to

Steadfastness (v. 9). This means to be firmly fixed, immovable. Our faith should remain solid as we go through a trial. This is how we resist the devil. Trial brings with it the temptation to question God’s goodness or to think that God has forgotten and abandoned us to our fate. Resist the thought and remember that you are not alone. Christians the world over are called upon to suffer for their faith. Stand in solidarity with other believers and resist the evil one’s designs.

Your Loving Pastor Chris.
