Pastor Chris’ Corona Quarantine Epistles to the Flock of AIC Ngong Road, in Dispersion and Isolation. 167th Edition.
Dear Apple of God’s Eye,
Today’s passage (2 Peter 10-11) is a continuation of the narrative about the judgment of the wicked. We see here some of the unusual attitudes and practices that attract God’s wrath.
They Revel in Sin (v. 10a). People who are driven by the lusts of the flesh often hide behind a mask of “super spirituality.” They use what is sometimes called “Jerusalem Jargon,” while indulging in every form of sinful practice. This is an insult to authority. Obviously, God cannot be deceived by our hypocrisy, nor can Satan. Remember, we are talking about people who presume to be preachers but are false teachers (2:1).
They Revile Authorities (vv. 10b – 11). Many preachers go touting authority that they do not have and claiming to be able to control spiritual beings. They dare where angels fear! This is not to say that we ought to live in fear. Jesus defeated Satan and all of us who have put our trust in him “piggyback” on that victory. But it is presumption to be arrogant and forget that the power that overcomes is not ours but the Lord’s.
Beware, proud preachers!
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
