Quarantine Epistles 274

Assurance. 2 Thessalonians 3:3-5.

Dear Citizens of the Heavenly City,

Paul has sought prayer from the Thessalonians but his main concern remains not for himself but for the believers. His concern is not shaky or uncertain, it is sure.

Care (v. 3). The Lord is faithful, says Paul. We can depend on God to deliver. He will establish the Christians, meaning that he will ground them in the faith, and will protect them against the attacks of the evil one.

Confidence (v. 4). Despite the odds against them, Paul is sure that the Thessalonians will be faithful. They are obeying and will continue to obey Paul’s instructions. Here there is also the anticipation of the instructions he is about to give. Imagine being assured that the instructions you issue will be followed. There is no greater joy for a leader.

Concern (v. 5). Paul’s wish is that the Lord will lead them to the love of God and the steadfastness of Christ. He wants to be sure that they will be stable in the faith and that they will love God. What is your desire for others?

Your Loving Pastor Chris.
