Quarantine Epistles 288

Only One Mediator.1 Timothy 2:5-7.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, Who gave Himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this, I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Dear Saints,

Paul now gives us the rationale behind his instructions on prayer for all people. Christ Jesus is central to Paul’s reasoning.

Reconciliation (v. 5). Jesus Christ is the go-between, reconciling lost humanity with God, from whom we were estranged by our sinful rebellion. Christ is able to do this because he paid the.

Ransom (v. 6).The price to set us free from bondage to sin was the life of the Son of God. Christ gave himself to die and that by his death he would buy our freedom. This is how much God desires the salvation of sinners – he paid for it with the life of his Son.

Representative (v. 7). Paul was appointed to be the bearer of the good news of salvation to the Gentiles. That he insists that he is not lying but telling the truth is not for Timothy’s benefit. There was hardly a person who knew Paul or his calling as an apostle better. But this letter will be read to everyone in Ephesus and some may have been misled by false teachers, to doubt the legitimacy of Paul’s claim to be an apostle. If at times the authority of a man of God is questioned, it is not the first time it has happened. The important question is, Do the doubters have legitimate grounds?

Your Loving Pastor Chris.
