Advance Measures.1 Timothy 3:14-15.
I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, If I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.
Dear Pilgrims and Sojourners,
Paul informs Timothy of his desire to visit. This letter is in…
Prelude (v. 14). Paul cannot wait to give Timothy all the instructions when he gets to Ephesus and they meet. Some things may have to wait but the urgent and essential things that Paul can convey by letter, he does so.
Preparation (v. 15). The instructions that have been given about prayer and the character and conduct of leaders are to ensure that the people of God have the right Behaviour in the church. The leadership structure given for the church is to facilitate order and informed interaction. Because of the diversity present in the church, some rules of engagement and some moderators are essential. Buttress of the truth. A buttress is a pillar that supports a wall. Buttresses are common in halls and other long buildings and in perimeter walls. The church is a buttress of the truth. The truth has to lean on something. A preacher of the truth cannot be just another voice crying in the wilderness.
The support structure for the truth of God is the people of God. This is why the holiness and purity of the church as a community are so important. The truth people hear must be propped up by a truthful community.
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
