A Secure Hope .2 Timothy 2:11-13.
The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with Him; If we endure we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us; If we are faithless, He remains faithful – for he cannot deny himself.
Dear Saints,
Paul makes another “trustworthy saying.” This was probably a hymn that the early Christians sang.
Confirmed (v. 11). Those who died with Christ are the ones who have given their lives to him. Paul says of himself that he has “been crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20). He also declares that anyone in Christ is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Such people (read believers) are assured of eternal life with Christ.
Conditional (v. 12). Those who persevere through hardship will reign with Christ. James says that they receive the “crown of righteousness” (James 1:12), while those who cave in and deny him will be embarrassed when he also denies them (Mark 8:38).
Constant (v. 13). But if we are faithless, he will remain faithful. His nature is one of faithfulness. Even if we lose faith in him, he remains himself. To be unfaithful would be to deny himself. It is such a comfort to know that even if we are faithless, our Lord remains true and we can depend on him.
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
