Hope. Titus 1:2-3.
In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began And at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Saviour.
Dear Pilgrims and Sojourners,
The uniqueness of the Christian faith is a certainty. All other faiths have hope in a positive turnout, but they can only hope. They have no certainty.
Assurance (v. 2). The certainty of our hope of eternal life is based on two key things: the Personality of God, “who never lies.” Every word of God is true (Psalm 119:160), so if he gives his word, we can be sure he will make it good. Promise. God made the promise of salvation before he created the universe. God appointed salvation through his son (1 Peter 1:20) “before the foundation of the world,” so it is not dependent on us but on God’s decree and plan, even before he created us.
Assignment (v. 3). One can begin to understand why Paul considered it such a privilege to preach the gospel. When the truth of God’s eternal plan was revealed in Christ, God entrusted the preaching of it to Paul. It is not about Paul but about God who entrusted Paul with the gospel. Beware those who build a personality cult around themselves. The focus must be Christ. Every preacher should point people to God.
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
