Quarantine Epistles Vol 2:5

Integrity and Dignity. Titus 2:6-8.

Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, And sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that the opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

Dear New Israel,

From the conduct of women, we move now to the young men.

Discipline (v. 6). The young men are to be self-controlled. The nature of youth is often marked by undisciplined excess, recklessness, indulgence, and a “never say die” lack of caution. Life in Christ calls for self-control in all areas.

Dignity (v. 7). Paul switches inadvertently from a general address to young men to a direct personal address to Titus, most probably because Titus was a young man. Titus ought to set an example of good works – going beyond simple self-control to proactive deeds, and integrity and dignity in his teaching. People should be able to trust him, no matter the circumstances.

Demonstration (v. 8). Titus should have soundness of speech. It goes without saying that Titus as a leader should watch his tongue carefully, so that he does not say anything that is untoward, but no one should be comfortable with a speech that is not polite, decent, and respectable. The goal should be to put to shame the accusers who would gladly condemn us, but who fail to find anything that is contrary to the teaching of the scriptures. Our lives are not just ours to live – they are a demonstration of the Christ living in us.

Your Loving Pastor Chris.
