Hold Fast to the Truth. 2 Timothy 3:14-15.
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it And how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Dear Family,
The opposite of those who deceive and are being deceived is those who are guided by the truth. Paul wants Timothy to know that he is one of those who are of the truth.
Remain (v. 14a). Paul advises Timothy to continue in what he has learned and has believed steadfastly. Persecution and opposition should stir up a determination to hold firmly to the faith.
Remember (vv. 14b-15a). Paul reminds Timothy of the origins of his faith. Although Paul had led Timothy to Christ, Timothy’s mother and grandmother had taught him the scriptures from childhood. In a sense, the scriptures are a family heirloom for Timothy. To have been taught God’s word from childhood is an exceptional privilege.
Rely (v. 15b). The knowledge that leads to salvation comes from the word of God. Elsewhere, Paul states it clearly, “So faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). There are no hidden secrets about salvation. Everything we need to know in order to be saved is in the word of God. Read and listen to the word, believe and you will be saved.
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
