Quarantine Epistle 5

Pastor Chris’ Corona Quarantine Epistles to the Flock of AIC Ngong Road, in Dispersion and Isolation. 5th. Edition.

Dear Loved Ones,

Today marks my sixth day in isolation. I’m thankful to God for good health and good rapport with my fellow prisoner, my dear wife, Theresa. The grace of God is with us, and that includes you. Welcome to our CQE, #5.Yesterday, we saw in the first part of Psalm 121:5 that the Lord is our keeper. Today, we deal with the rest of verse 5.”The Lord is your shade at your right hand,” is a figure of speech, meant to communicate two important things; one, that the Lord is our protection.

A shade protects us from the punishing heat of the sun. Two, that God provides protection at our right hand. Traditionally, the right hand is symbolically, the hand of favour, authority and power. For this reason, many peoples, including many in Africa, have looked down upon left-handed people, like me – they were literal, instead of symbolic. But I stray… The point is that God protects what is of greatest value. That is why I often make an exception for the English adage, “Do not put all your eggs in one basket.” If the basket is the Lord’s, then by all means, put all your eggs in there.

Someone may ask, What if the Lord drops the basket? I got this answer from another preacher, I’m afraid I don’t remember whom, “The Lord must want you to have a big omelette!” There’s a simple way to put this, with God, you can’t lose, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). This is a critical fact, that we must hold to. It is the platform on which faith rests – that God is able and available. Have faith!

Your loving Pastor Chris.
