Pastor Chris’ Corona Quarantine Epistles to the Flock of AIC Ngong Road, in Dispersion and Isolation. 165th Edition.
Dear Soldiers in the Lord’s Army,
In today’s passage (2 Peter 2:4-6) we continue with the theme of false teachers. The preceding passage ends with the declaration that “their destruction does not slumber.” We now look at three examples of rebellion in the past and how God dealt with them. The message ought to be clear: God will not let anyone get away with sin.
Angels (v. 4). It is not clear which angels are referred to here. Some have suggested that it was the “sons of God” (Genesis 6:2), a possible reference to angels who had sexual relations with humans. That may be but a more likely suggestion is that the angels are those who may have fallen with Satan and who will be thrown into the lake of fire with him (Revelation 12:9). Whatever the case, angels who fell did not get away with their rebellion.
Ancient World (v. 5). The world of Noah’s time is estimated to have had a population of several million people. When they sinned, God did not spare them and saved only eight people. It cannot even be argued that God could not destroy such vast numbers – he has done it before.
Ashes (v. 6). Sodom and Gomorrah were turned to ashes for their sinful perversions. They are meant as an example and warning to anyone who would ignore God’s standards and live ungodly lives. The message of these three examples is clear: God will not look the other way as people rebel and sin.
As he did in the past with those who rebelled, we can expect him to do so again.
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
