The Certainty of the Coming Judgment (2 Peter 3:7).
Dear Saints,
We saw in the previous passage how the world of Noah’s time perished in the water, despite the skepticism of the mockers of that day. The key to this is the word of God. God said it and it happened. We now look at the fate of the present world.
Preserved: The current universe is sustained by the same word of God, by which the former world was destroyed. This is important to understand because things will not happen until their time. God gave the people of Noah’s time 120 years (Genesis 6:3). In the same way, the present world is Reserved for Fire. It is only a fool who will see the apparent inaction of God and conclude that nothing will happen to the world. The day of judgment is coming and the ungodly will perish in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15). The only difference is that God has not told us when this will be. The people of Noah’s time also most probably did not know that they had 120 years. It may have seemed like they had forever to live and make their minds up – until the day Noah entered the ark (Matthew 24:37-39).
Do not be fooled by the apparent normalcy of everyday life. When time is up, there will be no warning. Do not be caught unprepared.
