Apply what you Know 2 Peter 3:17-18
Dear Heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven,
We conclude 2 Peter with an exhortation to apply knowledge. It is great to have knowledge but unless that knowledge is put to proper use, it is useless. We are encouraged to apply knowledge in our walk, in order to avoid an error.
Watch the Wicked (v. 17). The wicked fell into error because they did not take what they had been told seriously. We also have been taught and know what to expect in life and in the future, anticipating always, the coming of our Lord Jesus.
The knowledge we possess calls for alertness and watchfulness. Satan will use any opportunity to fill us (1 Peter 5:8), so we must be wary of false teachers and sinful appetites. We want to be steadfast, unshakable.
Grow in Grace (v. 18). Growth is a must for spiritual health. We need to constantly and consistently walk in the disciplines that enable us to grow in our faith – prayer, study, meditation, and obedience to the word of God, fellowship with other believers, and witnessing to unbelievers. All of these are just practices but the Spirit of God uses them to enable us in life and service.
Finally, we ought to always remember that we exist, whether in this life or in the next, to Glorify God.
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
