The Privilege of Redemption Galatians 3:13-15.
Dear Saints of the Most High,
It is now established that the way of grace through faith is the only way. The way of the law is not just difficult, it is impossible and only brings a curse upon the devotee. But Christ intended better things for us when he became our:
Substitution (v. 13). Paul says that Christ took the curse of the law for us. He illustrates this by citing the law of Moses, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” (Deuteronomy 21:23). The context is of a person who is executed for a capital offense by being hung on a tree.
We were guilty before God and awaiting our punishment, “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Christ took our place and was hung on the tree. In so doing, he took the curse that was ours upon himself. This paved the way for our:
Salvation(v. 14). The blessing of Abraham could now come to those of other nations apart from Israel and the promise of God that “in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:3) was fulfilled.
This wonderful happening comes to us the Holy Spirit, whom we receive when we put our faith in Christ and by whom we are sealed as God’s possession (Ephesians 1:13-14). A lot happens when a person gives his life to Christ. One of those things is that he receives the Holy Spirit as per the promise of Christ (Acts 1:8). This is the game-changer, friends. It is the Holy Spirit who produces Christlike character in us, as we exhibit the fruit of the Spirit (5:22-23).
Life in the Spirit is so exciting, the unspoken question is, Who would want to abandon that for the bondage of legalism?
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
