Quarantine Epistles 286
Pray for all People. 1 Timothy 2:1-2.
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, For kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
Dear Holy Nation,
Paul now shifts gears and talks about prayer. It is important that Christians pray because dependence on God makes prayer indispensable. Prayer is to be offered for everyone.
All (v. 1). The use of a variety of words referring to prayer is a way of demonstrating the need to pray and that different forms of prayer should be practiced. The point may not be so much the particular form of prayer, as the fact of it. However, it goes without saying that prayer should be broadened to include every form. This because prayer should be an expression of our need for God and for his help.
Authorities (v. 2). Those in positions of authority and power need prayer because our lives and livelihood depend on them. One of the tragedies of modern society is that we put a lot of effort into changing leadership but seldom pray for the leaders. When we change leaders, we just get a different version of the one who was there before. If we want to change, let us ask God for it. God can and does change people.
Your Loving Pastor Chris.
